Location Shoots

Location pet photo shoots are about capturing your pet in their natural and favourite environments, just being them! We are blessed here in the Scottish Borders with so much beautiful scenery and locations to choose from. The location can be as simple as your favourite walk, capturing your dog at play being themselves or we can follow our paws to anywhere we like! Dramatic countryside, urban landscapes or your home. It’s all there to choose from. Part of the process is chatting this through to make sure we get the absolute best location to achieve what you want for your artwork or image collection.

Where a studio shoot is often focused on one or two key images, a location shoot leaves the doors open for a much larger collection capturing all the different parts of you and your pet’s life together. (Yes you can join in!) The sessions are super relaxed, dictated by you and your pet and not on the clock. Whether it’s jumping in the Tweed, running on the beach or chasing a ball we will capture your pet for you to cherish forever.

How it works

  • Book your session, times will often be based around making the best of the natural light.

  • Tell me all about your pet, are they super shy or very excitable for example. Knowing this helps me plan for your session.

  • Meet at our chosen spot and have your shoot, no time pressure I aim for a fun and relaxed experience for all.

  • I work away in ‘post production’ to make your images look beautiful.

  • You come down to the studio for your personal slide show and decide how to present your images, I’m here to help and advise as much or as little as you need. There’s no pushy sales tactics, no pressure to buy on the day or in fact at all if you choose not too.

  • Come and collect your beautiful new artwork!

My dog won’t stay still or needs to be on the lead, does this matter?

No not at all. If you have a perfectly trained gun dog or agility champion then brilliant, but most family pets are just like the rest of us. We know what we should be doing (like not eating the chocolate in my case), but can’t always be relied on to do it.

Almost all the dogs I photograph are loved pets who want to say hi and have fun and that’s just fine. I’ve worked with all sorts of dogs, those that have a good sit stay command and those that don’t but I find that with some time, often a few treats and my selection of squeakers we always get the shot. A camera’s shutter takes a picture in much less than a second, less than a blink of eye in fact and that’s all I need. It’s my job to be ready and to know when that fraction of a second is, plus I have a lot of patience, like I mean a lot!

And then for everything else there is photoshop. So that includes leads, feet, fences and fingers to name a few things I’ve removed to make the perfect portrait!

What about the weather, this is Scotland after all?

Very true, sometimes it does rain in Scotland. But to make up for that we do have the most amazing natural light to work with all year round!

However, if your reading this and you happen to live in lets say California please do fly me out for a photoshoot! Have camera will travel. Seriously you have two choices if the weather won’t play ball. Switch to a studio shoot or reschedule. I won’t limit the number of rescheduling or charge extra for any weather related issues. We just wait until we have the right weather.
